NOTES:
Louis L. Vanderscors appears in Kent County school census records from 1909-1917. He registered for the World War I draft in August 1918. On August 20, 1919 Louis Vanderscors married Isabel Oliver. They were the parents of one child. Isabel passed before her husband in 1956. His former childhood home is now gone with the Grandville Police Dept located on its site and the Fire Department right across the street.
At the time of his death, Mr. Vanderscors was the fire chief of the Grandville Fire Department. He collapsed at the scene of a huge blaze at the Bekmart Construction Co. that started when fuel oil that two men were using to wash down a truck exploded. Initial reports cited a heart attack as the cause of his collapse. Louis was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital where later reports indicate that he died the following day of a massive cerebral hemorrhage at the age of 63. His son, Robert, his 2 granddaughters, and other family members survived him. Funeral Arrangements were made by the Posthumus Funeral home where services were conducted by Rev. Paul Robinson of the Grandville Methodist Church in the Chapel of the Fountain.
